Ghostbox is a work of audiovisual experience within a constructed environment. It attempts to investigate the “Observer Effect” in the real world. The action occurs in a dark space filled with ten constantly-powered, audio-modulated, red laser modules. While the lasers are physically identical, the audio information they carry differs. This creates an entangled, amorphous audiovisual scape, lending it a patterned structure. Although the system appears uniform, it reveals its synthesized nature upon interaction. Visitors wearing light-sensitive devices on both fists explore the layers of the soundscape through their body movements as they interact with the linear-patterned space of laser beams. The devices on their wrists receive the modulated laser rays, transmitting the information to speakers and making the rays audible inside the space.

An audiovisual artwork that encourages multiple visitors to interact with the space simultaneously, allowing them to be aware of each other's existence. The artwork takes place in a dark environment containing ten red laser modules that are powered and audio-modulated, with each module carrying different audio information, resulting in a complex and entangled audiovisual landscape. Visitors wear light-sensitive devices on their wrists and fists, which allows them to explore the soundscape through their body movements. As visitors move around the space and interact with the laser beams, their physical actions shape the audiovisual landscape in real time. The resulting soundscape synthesises the laser audio information, the visitors' movements, and the constantly shifting patterns of the laser beams. The unique aspect of the artwork is that multiple visitors can interact with the space simultaneously, and the audiovisual landscape changes depending on the light-sensitive devices each person uses. As a result, visitors are aware of each other's presence in the space, and their interactions can influence each other's experience. Overall, Ghostbox offers a thought-provoking and immersive experience that allows multiple visitors to explore the relationship between perception, observation, and quantum mechanics uniquely and interactively.

Descriptions

Technical Concept : The technical concept of Ghostbox incorporates a large-scale replication of the "double-slit experiment," a fundamental experiment in quantum mechanics that explores the wave-particle duality of particles. The laser modules in Ghostbox produce an interference pattern through the use of unique double-axis diffraction gratings, creating a complex audiovisual landscape. Visitors wearing light-sensitive devices interact with the laser beams, altering the interference pattern in real-time, and shaping the soundscape. The result is an immersive and interactive experience that allows visitors to explore the relationship between perception, observation, and quantum mechanics in a new and innovative way.

Visual Concept : Ghostbox is a highly synesthetic experience, where visitors hear and see the audiovisual landscape around them. Visitors wearing light-sensitive devices modulate the audio information carried by the laser beams. They shape the constantly shifting audiovisual patterns in real-time as they move around the space. The lasers are positioned in a dark room, creating a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere. The laser beams are the only light source, providing an intense and mesmerizing visual experience.
